This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share and protect information when you use the Manaska mobile application, website and related services (collectively, the "Services").
We aim to collect information that is relevant to providing and improving our educational services, while respecting the privacy of students, parents, teachers and other users.
By using our Services, you acknowledge that you have been provided with this Privacy Policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, we will seek it separately or through an appropriate consent process.

If parental verification is introduced, we may collect limited information necessary to obtain, verify and manage parental or guardian consent.
Payment information
If paid features are introduced, we may collect information about your subscription, purchases, payment status and transaction references. Payments may be processed by app stores or authorized payment providers. We do not need to receive your full payment-card details when payments are handled entirely by those providers.
We do not intentionally collect information unrelated to the Services. Features requiring additional device permissions or categories of information will be described when introduced, as required.

We process personal information only where permitted under applicable law and subject to any required consent or other lawful basis.
3. Educational research and AI development
Manaska may analyze learning activities and educational interactions to better understand learning outcomes, identify difficult concepts, evaluate teaching methods and improve educational technology.
We may use aggregated or genuinely anonymized educational information for educational research, analytics, statistical analysis, content development, model evaluation, derived insights, and the development or training of machine learning and generative AI systems, including internal educational AI models.
We may create, retain and use genuinely anonymized educational datasets, aggregate findings, research results, model evaluations, non-identifying model artifacts and derived educational insights for future research and internal machine learning, generative AI and product development, including after an account is deleted, where the retained information cannot reasonably identify an individual.
Replacing a name or account identifier does not necessarily make information anonymous. Information that remains capable of identifying an individual will continue to be treated as personal information. Any other use of it will follow applicable law, including any required consent and protections for children.
We do not sell students' personal information or use children's personal information for targeted advertising.
4. AI-powered features
Ask tutor is currently Manaska's student-facing AI feature. We may introduce other AI-powered features in the future. When you use these features, we may process your questions, relevant educational material, conversation context and other information needed to generate an appropriate response.
We may share information necessary for AI processing with authorized AI service providers. We aim to limit unnecessary account identifiers and other personal details in information sent to external AI systems. However, information you voluntarily include in questions or conversations may be processed as part of your request. Please avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive or personal information.
AI conversations may be retained where needed for learning continuity, troubleshooting, safety, service improvement or other disclosed and lawful purposes. Third-party AI providers process information according to their applicable service agreements and data-processing terms.
AI-generated responses may contain inaccuracies. Students should use appropriate judgment and seek clarification from teachers or other qualified persons when necessary.
5. Children's privacy and safety
Manaska provides educational services that may be used by children under 18.
When creating an account, users confirm through a checkbox that, if they are under 18, a parent or guardian has agreed. We do not currently verify this confirmation independently. We will add verification when it is legally required.
Parents and guardians may contact us to exercise applicable rights regarding their child's information, including access, correction, withdrawal of consent and deletion.
We use learning information to provide educational activities, progress feedback and personalized learning features, subject to applicable protections for children. We do not use children's personal information for targeted advertising. We do not undertake prohibited tracking, behavioural monitoring or other processing restricted by applicable child-data laws.
Student safety
We may automatically check messages submitted through Ask tutor, Help and similar features for indications of serious safety concerns, such as self-harm, abuse, bullying or threats. When a concern is identified, we may display support resources, generate a safety alert and permit authorized personnel to review relevant information.
Where necessary and legally permitted or required, limited information may be disclosed to appropriate persons or authorities to address a serious safety concern.
Manaska is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee that every risk will be detected. In India, emergency assistance may be available through 112, Child Helpline 1098, and Tele-MANAS 14416.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information in the following circumstances.
Service providers
We use third-party providers to operate and improve our Services. These may include cloud hosting, authentication, databases, storage, backups, content delivery, diagnostics, communication, payment processing, security and AI services. Depending on the services in use, providers may include Google Cloud, Firebase, Cloudflare, Backblaze, Anthropic and other technology partners.
We seek to limit shared information to what is needed for the relevant service and apply appropriate contractual and technical safeguards.
Teachers and educational institutions
If Manaska offers classes and you join one, authorized teachers or educational institutions may access information relevant to that class, such as enrolment, assessment results and learning progress. Access to private conversations, support requests and other sensitive information is subject to the relevant feature permissions, applicable law and safety requirements.
Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information when required by applicable law, a valid legal process or competent authority, or where otherwise legally permitted and reasonably necessary to protect safety, security or legal rights.
Business transfers
If Manaska undergoes a merger, acquisition, restructuring or transfer of business assets, relevant information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and appropriate confidentiality and privacy safeguards.
7. International processing
Our primary application infrastructure is intended to operate in India. Some service providers may process or store information outside India, including in the United States or other jurisdictions. Where personal information is transferred or processed internationally, we will follow applicable legal requirements and any relevant restrictions on cross-border data processing.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, maintain security, meet applicable legal obligations or resolve legitimate disputes. Retention periods may vary according to the type of information and its purpose.
Account information and associated learning records are generally retained while needed for an active account. Certain conversation records, technical logs, support requests and security information may be retained for shorter or different periods based on operational needs.
When information is no longer required, we may delete it, anonymize it or otherwise handle it as permitted by applicable law. Backup copies may remain temporarily until they expire or are replaced through normal backup processes, with appropriate restrictions on their use.
Genuinely anonymized information, aggregate statistics, derived educational insights and research results may be retained for continued analysis, product development and research.
For details about account deletion, please see Delete your account.
9. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information we process. These may include encrypted connections, authentication controls, restricted access, encryption of stored information where appropriate, protected backups, monitoring and security reviews. Access to personal information is limited according to operational responsibilities and legitimate business needs.
No system can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their account credentials and notify us if they suspect unauthorized account access.
10. Your privacy choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Request information about personal data processed by Manaska.
- Request correction or updating of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information.
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
- Opt out of optional marketing communications.
- Raise questions or complaints about the handling of your information.
- Exercise other rights available under applicable law.
Parents or legal guardians may make applicable requests on behalf of children. We may take reasonable steps to verify a request before acting on it, particularly where necessary to protect an account or another person's information. Withdrawal of consent or deletion of necessary account information may prevent continued access to some or all Services.
Requests can be sent to privacy@manaska.in.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our Services, technology, business practices or legal requirements. The updated policy will be published with a revised "Last updated" date. Where required by applicable law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before implementing changes that materially affect how personal information is processed.
